1Do I need to fast before a blood test ?
It is not normally required that you would fast prior to any fertility related blood test. It is however beneficial to be hydrated to enable easier blood collection. You will be informed by a nurse if fasting is required.
2Why do I need an appointment to ‘drop off’ a semen sample?
Semen testing is done in our on site Andrology Laboratory. This test must be commenced within one hour of production of sample and analyzed, which may take up to 30 minutes. As there is a maximum number of samples that can be tested at any one time the appointment slot is very important. The Andrology staff are not always available for this test. To save a wasted journey and potential of the need to repeat an appointment must be booked.
3What is day one of my cycle (period)?
Day one is counted from the first full day of active bleeding, any spotting or discharge is not counted. If bleeding starts after midday the following day is cycle day one.
4What will scans be like?
A. Scans performed for fertility treatment are TVS (trans vaginal scan) this is similar to a smear test, a probe is inserted into the vagina and images of the womb (uterus) and ovaries can be seen on the scan monitor. This is done in real time and often results are available straight away. It is important to have an empty bladder for this scan.
